5 Summer Beauty Essentials

Happy Friday, y’all! I’m beyond thankful that our cold spell in the North Carolina mountains seems to be winding down…who has ever heard of 44 degrees in May?! Well, apparently a lot of people, and I’ve just been used to 85+ degree days in May growing up in Columbia, SC ?

Anyways, now that the warm weather is here to stay, I’ve been replenishing my stash of beauty products to get ready for the summer. When it’s super hot outside, nothing sounds worse to me than wearing a heavy face of make up, or any products that are drying, for that matter. AKA: no crackly matte lipsticks or products that will settle into fine lines.

I have plenty of tried and true favorites, but I’m going to focus on the real MVP’s of my bathroom cabinet today! Do you switch out your products according to the season? Or keep it consistent year round?

5 Summer Beauty Essentials

TOP 5 SUMMER BEAUTY ESSENTIALS:

*When shopping the Beauty Counter website, don’t forget to shop through my link (click here!) Or, you can always enter my name, Margaret Orr, as your consultant at checkout. This helps me continue to test products for y’all, and bring you great content!

1. Mineral SPF – Years ago when I was in high school, my sister and I weirdly both developed an allergy to mainstream suncreens while on our annual beach vacation. I don’t know that we ever pinpointed the actual ingredient that made us break out in an itchy red rash on our arms and legs, but we knew we had to switch up our SPF. Nowadays, I only use mineral or zinc based sunscreens that are free of harmful chemicals known to cause irritation. Y’all know I preach the goodness of Beauty Counter products all the time, but you really won’t find a better SPF. I use this on my face under my make up and stock up on this sunscreen mist for lake and beach days.

2. Lightweight Foundation – I promise this is the only other Beauty Counter product I will mention in this summer beauty post, but I just couldn’t leave it out. This is a new-to-me foundation, but I’ve already been wearing it daily! I got the shade Medium 310 for the summertime, and it truly is featherweight, but still buildable. The perfect summertime foundation that doesn’t feel like it’s caked on your face!

3. NYX Butter Gloss – Name a worse situation that wearing sticky icky lip gloss while sweating at a summer picnic or football tailgate. Maybe that’s a little bit dramatic, but y’all know that is the absolute worst feeling! I’ve been wearing the NYX Butter Gloss for years in the shades Creme Brulee and Peaches & Cream. It’s so smooth and moisturizing, without being sticky whatsoever. When I’ve doing a quick five minute face in the summer, I start with the 2 products I listed above, and always end with a quick swipe of this gloss.

4. Lights, Camera, Splashes Mascara – If you have a beach vacation or honeymoon coming up soon, this waterproof mascara will be your best friend! It goes on without clumping, and truly lasts all day through dips in the pool, to showers after the beach. I love the “regular” version of (Lights, Camera, Lashes) for everyday wear, too.

5. Under Eye Masks – We all get a little bit puffier in the summer with the warmer temperatures – my favorite way to combat that is with ample hydration, but when that doesn’t do the trick, these under eye masks are the next best thing. I keep my box in the door of our refrigerator and think they work 10x better when they’re cold! They also feel so refreshing on tired eyes in the morning. I like to pack a couple of these in my suitcase and pop them in hotel mini fridges when we’re traveling, too.
