This #WeddingWednesday blog post is going to be a very different one, but I don’t want to stay silent right now, even if that’s the easiest thing to do! I haven’t posted or “storied” this past week because we were trying to figure out how the coronavirus outbreak would affect our wedding.
We truly hoped that we would be able to move forward with it on April 4th, even if that meant that we had to considerably scale down our guest list. But on Monday, we received word from our reception venue that they had decided to cancel or postpone all events over the next 30 days. 48 hours after that, our vendors started cancelling left and right, and we knew that our only option was to postpone for (hopefully) sometime this summer.
It wasn’t an easy decision at all – Rudd and I even talked about just getting married with our families and postponing the reception, but ultimately decided that we would regret not having the wedding that we have put so much work into. We also had to take into account the fact that we want our grandparents and other older guests to be able to comfortably attend, as well as guests who were traveling from afar.
I’m sharing all of this not to add to the negativity that is floating around right now, but in support of other brides + grooms out there who are going through the same thing! Or maybe you’re a highschooler missing your senior prom, an athlete who is unable to finish (or start) their season, a small business owner who is worried what the next few months may hold, a caretaker of an elderly or susceptible family member, and so on. We are all playing different roles in this story right now, and most of our situations are not convenient or pretty. If you’re going through something like that right now, know that you aren’t alone!
Even though we didn’t plan for a global pandemic to force us to postpone our wedding (and you also didn’t plan for it to disrupt your life in very serious, and maybe even heartbreaking, ways) we can hold fast to the fact that God’s plans are better than are own, and He holds our future!
