Happy first Friday of 2019!! I thought it was only appropriate to write my updated skincare routine as one of my first blog posts of the year. I have gotten so many questions about it lately and I love that y’all are interested! Skincare is something that I’ve always been interested in, but I’ve definitely paid more attention to it as I’ve gotten older. I have a whole lot to say about my skincare routine, so let’s get started!
MY MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE
1. Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser
When I wake up in the morning, I use a gentle cleanser with warm water to prime my skin for the day. I’ve always trusted Aveeno products and love how soft and smooth this cleanser leaves my skin!
2. Neutrogena Rapid Clear Toner
I dab a little bit of this toner on a cotton round and gently smooth it across my entire face. It’s a great way to tighten your pores at the beginning of the day to prevent them from clogging!
3. Beauty Counter Balancing Facial Oil
I discovered the world of facial oils a few months ago and am OBSESSED. It might sound counterintuitive to put oils on your face, but trust me on this one. This oil evens my skin tone and makes it so smooth underneath my make-up!
4. Beauty Counter Countermatch Lotion OR Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer w/ SPF
Here’s the deal: I just started integrating Beauty Counter products into my routine a couple of months ago and I’ve found some favorites! (Read my review of some of the products here.) The Countermatch Lotion is one of them – I wear it on days I know I’ll be inside all day. Otherwise, I wear my Aveeno Moisturizer with SPF because it’s SO important to protect your skin from the sun to avoid early signs of aging! Even if you’re just driving your car to and from work and sit inside all day, you need SPF. While I’m on this subject, it’s not a bad idea to put SPF on your hands everyday if you’re driving a car! So many rays hit your hands through the windshield, and it’s one of the first places most people notice skin aging.
MY NIGHTLY SKINCARE ROUTINE
1. Beauty Counter Cleansing Balm
If there is one skincare product I would recommend trying off of this post, it’s this one!! This is such a gentle make up remover and leaves your skin feeling nourished. It’s also the best eye make up remover I’ve ever tried – better than make up wipes or micellar water! I smooth an almond sized amount right over the top of my make up and then gently remove it with a damp microfiber cloth.
*I mask 2-3 times per week. If it’s a night that I’m masking, I use EITHER Step 2A OR Step 2B. If I’m not masking, I skip to Step 3.
2A. Aveeno MaxGlow Peel Off Mask
This is a low-grade chemical peel infused with AHA’s that gently exfoliate your skin! I’ve been loving this mask to remove dull skin cells from the surface of my face. I like to use this mask twice a week as my exfoliator! You leave it on for 15-20 minutes until it dries, then it peels right off.
2B. Beauty Counter Balancing Facial Mask
This is usually the mask I use on Sunday or Monday night to cleanse my skin from the weekend! It draws out all of your skin’s impurities, leaving it smooth and balanced. It’s the only charcoal mask I’ve tried that actually works!
3. Beauty Counter Brightening Facial Oil
A dose of Vitamin C is a MUST if you want bright, younger looking skin. This facial oil gives you that + a moisturized and glowing complexion.
4. Wayne Powers Organic Retinol Moisturizer
I’m not going to get in the nitty-gritty of retinol and retin-a (both of which are retinoids.) If you’re in your 20’s or older, it’s a good idea to use a retinoid in your skincare routine to keep your skin looking young and healthy! In a nutshell, retinoids fade dark spots, encourage cell turnover, and lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Wayne Powers is local to Columbia, SC, but you can also order online! Read my blog post all about Wayne’s other products.
5. Differin Gel
I’ve been using Differin since high school to prevent breakouts and can’t say enough good things about it! I swear by this as the one single product that helps keep my skin so clear. It used to only be available by prescription because it’s technically an acne medication, but now you can buy it over the counter! Yay!! I’ve never had acne, but my dermatologist recommended that I start using it in high school and it’s worked like a charm to keep my skin consistently clear. It takes a few weeks for the effects of the product to kick in, but it’s the biggest lifesaver once you keep using it.
In the event I do have a breakout (mine are usually hormonal and pop up around my chin,) I use this spot treatment! Just a little dab on each bump or problem area will do ya. This treatment is super affordable and works wonders to dry up breakouts overnight!
As always, PLEASE let me know if you have questions about any of this! I love to talk about how to have a great skincare routine, so I’m here to help!
