I’m definitely long overdue for a house update! If you’re new around here, feel free to read about Rudd and I buying our first home 2 months ago, and my House Update No. 1. If you watched my mini house tour on my Instagram stories (saved to my highlights!) then you know we’re planning to knock out an existing wall and completely re-do the current 1960s kitchen. I wanted to share some “before” photos of the kitchen with you so that you can see what we’re working with + my current inspiration board for the kitchen renovation.
I took these before photos the day Rudd and I closed on the house back in May! Obviously the previous owners left behind some beautiful furniture, light fixtures, and window treatments, among other things ? We are SO excited to go full Fixer-Upper style on this kitchen!!
When I say renovation, we’re really just gutting the entire thing! Once the wall on the right (where the refrigerator is) comes out, the kitchen will run right into our little sitting room with the brick fireplace. An island will go where the wall is right now, and we’re going to try to match the hardwoods in the other room so that it all runs together seamlessly! We just finished working with our cabinet people on the layout and it’s actually feeling real now! We’ll probably be appliance shopping soon, so I’d love any of your recommendations in the comments of this post.
Now for the good stuff! These pictures are my top sources of inspiration right now, but I have tons more over on my “Kitchens” Pinterest board, which is also where you can find the sources for these photos. I’m wanting to do white shaker-style cabinets, which is super evident in these pictures! (Our walls will be Sherwin Williams “Agreeable Grey.”) Right now we’re also thinking a white subway tile backsplash with a medium-grey grout. The jury is still out on countertops because I haven’t looked at any seriously yet! I definitely know I want them to be light and bright, though.
I’m torn between going trendy with champagne-bronze hardware, or not! I love the over the sink sconces and lanterns in the top right photo. I’m also really drawn to the modern long-line pulls on the cabinets in some of these pictures.
We are definitely doing the built in window seats under those two big windows in the first “before” photo! That’s probably one of my favorite little nooks in the whole house.
What do y’all think?! I would love to hear your input and suggestions! Can’t wait to share the whole process with you as we start making more serious decisions.
