Ikea Farlov Sectional Review

We have absolutely loved our Ikea couches that we bought earlier last year. After doing some research, we decided to go with the Farlov sectional for our big living room, and also picked up the Ektorp loveseat (which has since been replaced by the Uppland style)  for our smaller sitting room with the fireplace.  Now that we’ve had them (and lived on them!) for a year, I thought I was a credible enough source to write a review!

Ikea Farlov Sectional Review

Fern loves the Farlov, too!

It looks like the Farlov sectional is currently out of stock, but the regular sofa, the loveseat, the armchair, and the ottoman are currently available. Ikea stock is always changing, so check back often!

I also want to make a note that I always recommend heading to your local Ikea store to test out these sofas in person, if possible! We got ours at the Charlotte location. You can also check the stock of specific stores on the Ikea website – I had to stalk the Farlov sectional for months before we were able to snag it!

Now, for your questions from my Instagram stories!

How comfortable is it?

Very comfortable! I’ll get into it more in the next question, but it is a very “hearty” couch, as opposed to some of the other Ikea sofas. It seems much more expensive than it is! I love how the seat cushions are all “one piece” because I think it makes it comfier than cushions that are broken up. The back of the sofa also has a slight angle to it, so you’re a bit reclined when you sit all the way back on it. We also chose to get the coordinating ottoman, because I love nothing more than pushing it into the corner and making a cozy little section for movie night. Overall, I’m very pleased with the quality of the cushions! We haven’t had any issues with them over the past year, and we (Fern included) sit + lay on it almost every day!

Is it a deep couch?

Yes, it is definitely deep. If I scoot all the way back on the seat cushion so my back is upright, my feet can’t touch the floor, and I’m 5’6! When you remove the back cushions, the seat cushions are almost the width of a twin sized bed, but not quite. I know everyone has different couch-depth opinions, but if you’re looking for a deep one – this is it!

What is the fabric like?

According to the website, the fabric is 60% cotton, 16.5% linen, and 24% polyester. It’s “yarn-dyed with natural hints of flax that gives the cover a texture that both looks and feels crisp.” Something I didn’t realize about the fabric before seeing it in person, is that it almost has a piqué look and feel to it, which really does give it an interesting texture. As opposed to the fabric on the Ektorp, which is more of a classic twill. The fabric on the Farlov sofa is one of the reasons I think it looks more high-end than some of the other Ikea sofas. The white version of this couch is almost a combination of white with very subtle pale-grey stitches, which I assume is the “natural hints of flax” that they note on the website.

How do you keep it so white?

This was a trial and error at first, but I’ve finally found a system that works! First of all, every single element of the couch is slipcovered, which means you can remove the covers to wash them. I wash them every 6 weeks, just depending on how much traffic they get. I put them in the washer with powdered Oxi Clean, then lay them flat to dry, or put them in the dryer on “air dry” with no heat, so they won’t shrink. Once they’re dry and back on the couch, I use the Scotch Guard protectant spray, which wards off stains and spills. I actually spilled the last few sips of my coffee on the Farlov not too long ago, and it just rolled right off, thanks to the Scotch Guard! When we do get stains (or dirty footprints from Fern) I use Folex spray to get spots out in between washes.

I hope this was helpful! Overall, we are very happy with our couches, but I have to say that they Farlov is definitely my favorite Ikea sofa by far. If you have any other questions, leave them in the comments, send me a message on Instagram, or you can always send me an e-mail!
